Court Sends JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna to SIT Custody Till June 29 Over Sexual Abuse Charges

BENGALURU: Today(on 25th June), Bengaluru court ordered Janata Dal (Secular) Member of Parliament (MP) Prajwal Revanna to be placed under the custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) until June 29. This decision comes as part of the ongoing investigation into multiple allegations of sexual abuse against Revanna.

Special Magistrate KN Shivakumar issued the custody order following the filing of the fourth sexual abuse case against Prajwal Revanna. The case involves allegations of molestation, contributing to the mounting legal challenges faced by the JD(S) MP.

The allegations of sexual abuse surfaced after over 2,900 videos depicting the sexual assault of numerous women were disseminated online, including on various social media platforms. These disturbing videos have led to widespread outrage and a call for speedy justice.

On April 28, a first information report (FIR) was lodged against Prajwal Revanna and his father, HD Revanna, under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The charges include:

  • Section 354A (sexual harassment)
  • Section 354D (stalking)
  • Section 506 (criminal intimidation)
  • Section 509 (insult to modesty of woman)

The FIR was registered at the Holenaraseepur town police station in Hassan district, following a complaint by one of the victims.

The case is being meticulously investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer BK Singh. The SIT has been tasked with uncovering the full extent of the alleged crimes and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Amid the political storm and public outrage that ensued, Prajwal Revanna fled to Germany shortly after the April 26 Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka. His departure raised numerous questions and added to the controversy surrounding the case.

Revanna’s absence from the country, however, was short-lived. Upon his return to India on May 31, he was promptly arrested and handed over to SIT custody. Initially, he was placed in custody from May 31 to June 10.

The legal proceedings have seen multiple extensions of Revanna’s custody. In connection with the second rape case, the court extended his SIT custody from June 13 to June 18. Following this, in the third rape case, the court ordered that he remain in SIT custody until June 24.

As of now, with the fourth case filed against him, the Bengaluru court has again placed Revanna in SIT custody until June 29. The ongoing investigation and the sheer volume of evidence being scrutinized suggest that further developments in this case are likely.
