A special court postponed the defamation case hearing against Rahul Gandhi due to the death of advocate Kamal Srivastava. The court has now rescheduled the hearing for July 1, giving both parties more time to prepare.

A special court postponed the hearing in a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi due to bar members observing a non-working day in memory of their colleague, advocate Kamal Srivastava, who passed away.
Consequently, the court rescheduled the hearing for July 1.
The defamation case dates back to 2018, when BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed a complaint against Gandhi, alleging that he made inappropriate remarks about Amit Shah during the Karnataka Assembly election campaign.
During the last hearing on April 28, the complainant’s side brought forward a witness named Anil Mishra, who lives in Pitambarpur Kala in Kotwali Dehat.
Gandhi’s attorney, advocate Kashi Prasad Shukla, has already begun cross-examining the witness.
In December 2023, the court issued a warrant for Gandhi’s arrest. He surrendered in February 2024 and was granted bail on two sureties of Rs.25,000 each.
On July 26 of the previous year, Gandhi recorded his statement in court, asserting his innocence and claiming that the case is part of a political conspiracy against him.
