[Obscene Video Case] Bengaluru Court Extends Prajwal Revanna’s SIT Custody Until June 10

Today, On 6th June, Bengaluru court extended the Special Investigation Team (SIT) custody of Prajwal Revanna until June 10. Special Magistrate KN Shivakumar issued the order in response to a request from the SIT. The extension allows the SIT additional time to conduct their investigation.

Bengaluru : A Bengaluru court extended Janata Dal (Secular) Member of Parliament Prajwal Revanna‘s custody with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) until June 10. The SIT investigating sexual abuse allegations against him. Special Magistrate KN Shivakumar granted the extension following an application by the SIT.

Previously, on May 31, the court had ordered Revanna into SIT custody for seven days, until June 6.

The allegations against Revanna surfaced after the circulation of over 2,900 videos depicting the sexual assault of multiple women, including on social media platforms.

On April 28, a first information report (FIR) filed against Prajwal Revanna and his father HD Revanna under Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (insult to modesty of woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Holenaraseepur town police station in Hassan district. The criminal case registered based on a complaint from one of the victims. An investigation team led by senior IPS officer BK Singh probing the case.

Following the public outrage and political turmoil that ensued, Prajwal Revanna fled to Germany soon after the April 26 Lok Sabha polls in the state. He returned to India during the early hours of May 31 and subsequently arrested.

Before his return, Prajwal Revanna moved a Bengaluru court for anticipatory bail in the three cases connected to the sexual abuse allegations against him.

On May 27, Revanna posted a self-made video declaring his intention to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on May 31 for questioning. He mentioned that his Berlin trip scheduled in advance, as there no charges against him during the voting in Karnataka on April 26, part of the second phase of the seven-phased general elections. Furthermore, he claimed that a political conspiracy targeting him due to his rising prominence in politics.

On April 28, a case registered at the Holenarasipura town police station involving allegations of sexual assault made against HD Revanna and his son, Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna. A house help filed a complaint accusing the two men of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation. In response, the Karnataka government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations against HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna.

On May 14, HD Revanna released from Parappana Agrahara Jail after being granted conditional bail by a special court for people’s representatives. Revanna had been arrested on May 4 by SIT officials in relation to a kidnapping case registered against him at the KR Nagar police station. The judge granted him conditional bail on a Rs 5 lakh bond.
