KERALA: A serious fight happened between some lawyers and college students near the Ernakulam District Court in Kerala during the early hours of April 11. The clash turned violent, and many people got hurt, including lawyers, students, and police officers. At least two of the injured are in very serious condition.

The problem started during the annual day celebration of the Ernakulam Bar Association (EBA). The event was taking place at their headquarters, which is located right between the Ernakulam District Court complex and Maharaja’s College.

Usually, students from Maharaja’s College join or crash the EBA celebrations as part of an old and known tradition. But this time, things went out of control. The students, who were reportedly members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), came to the event and entered the area without permission. This caused tension and finally led to a serious street fight outside the court, college, and bar association buildings.

Some reports say that a few lawyers were under the influence of alcohol when the fighting started. Students from Maharaja’s crashing EBA events has been a long-standing tradition. But this time, that tradition turned violent and dangerous.

The police were called to control the situation shortly after midnight. The fight had already injured nearly 20 people, including some police officers. All injured persons are now getting treatment at Ernakulam General Hospital.

Lawyers were allegedly under the influence of alcohol when the row occurred. It is still not fully clear how the situation got so violent, but both sides are blaming each other. The students who trespassed this time were allegedly members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI).

After the incident, the Ernakulam Bar Association has urgently called for a meeting to talk about what happened and decide what action to take next. EBA has now called an urgent meeting to discuss the incident.

This event has raised serious questions about campus safety, law and order, and the role of students and legal professionals in such public fights. The police are expected to investigate and take strict action against those responsible.
