Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court officially framed charges against Congress MP Karti Chidambaram and several others in the Chinese visa scam case.
The court has also framed charges against Bhaskar Raman. With this step, the matter has now moved into the trial stage, and the court has fixed 16 January as the next date of hearing.
The case relates to alleged irregularities in granting visas to Chinese nationals. According to the prosecution, the accused persons had entered into a criminal conspiracy for issuing visas in an unlawful manner.
By framing the charges, the court has held that there is enough basis to proceed with the trial.
Reacting to the court’s decision, Karti Chidambaram said,
“The legal process allows me many avenues and all those avenues will be pursued.”
His statement suggests that he will continue to challenge the proceedings by using all legal remedies available to him under law.
Earlier, The CBI has submitted its chargesheet against Congress MP Karti Chidambaram in the alleged Chinese visa scam case.

According to the CBI, the case involves suspected corruption linked to approvals from the Home Ministry for allowing the re-use of visas issued to Chinese technicians.
The investigation agency has charged the accused persons with criminal conspiracy, cheating, and forgery under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The case centres on allegations that visas were wrongly issued to 263 Chinese nationals in 2011, during the period when senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram, Karti’s father, was serving as the Union Home Minister.
