New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy corruption case. This arrest occurred on the eve of his Supreme Court hearing for bail related to the associated money laundering case.

Kejriwal was taken into custody from Tihar Jail, where he has been held since June 2.

This significant development occurred just hours before the Supreme Court scheduled to hear Arvind Kejriwal’s appeal against the Delhi High Court’s suspension of his bail granted by a trial court.

Kejriwal scheduled to appear before the CBI court on Wednesday morning, where the CBI will seek his custody for further interrogation.

The Delhi High Court recently stayed the trial court‘s bail order, asserting that the trial judge did not fully consider the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) evidence and arguments.

Initially arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with the alleged money laundering case linked to the Delhi Excise Policy, Kejriwal was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in May for 21 days to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh described the CBI’s action as a “major conspiracy.”

He stated,

“There is a strong likelihood that Arvind Kejriwal will be granted bail by the Supreme Court. In response, the BJP government at the Centre, in collaboration with the CBI, has plotted to arrest Kejriwal by fabricating a false case against him.”

Following this period, he surrendered to Tihar Jail authorities on June 2. The CBI’s recent arrest in the corruption case adds a new dimension to Kejriwal’s legal challenges, potentially affecting his bail situation in the money laundering case.

The timing of this arrest, just ahead of the Supreme Court hearing, is expected to heighten the political and legal tensions surrounding the Delhi Chief Minister’s case.

The Delhi government implemented the policy on November 17, 2021, but it discontinued by the end of September 2022. The party faces corruption allegations, which AAP denies.
