NEW DELHI: A British woman who became friends with a man on Instagram came to Delhi to meet him. The man, identified as Kailash, allegedly raped her at a hotel in Mahipalpur. His friend, Wasim, has also been accused of molesting her.

The police have arrested Kailash for rape, and Wasim has been charged with molestation.

The police informed that the woman had traveled from the UK to India specifically to meet Kailash, whom she had befriended online. She accepted his invitation and arrived in Delhi, unaware of the ordeal that awaited her.

According to the police, the accused took her to a hotel in Mahipalpur, where she was allegedly raped.

“The accused, Kailash, was arrested under rape charges,”

-the police stated.

They further added that his associate, Wasim, has also been booked for molestation.

Authorities are conducting further investigations into the case. The police have informed the British High Commission about the incident to ensure that the victim receives the necessary assistance.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of foreign tourists, especially women, who travel to meet online acquaintances. Law enforcement agencies have urged travelers to exercise caution while making such visits.
