BREAKING | BPSC Exam Row: Prashant Kishor Granted Bail Hours After Being Arrested From Hunger Strike Site In Patna

PATNA: Hours after being taken into custody by the Patna Police, Jan Suraaj leader Prashant Kishor was granted bail on Monday. This incident took place during the ongoing protests over the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination in Patna.

The bail was approved by the civil court.

Kishor was arrested while staging a protest with a five-point agenda, which led the police to intervene, remove him from the site, and detain him.

As per a statement released by Jan Suraaj, the police allegedly forced Kishor to a hospital. There were also claims that he was slapped by the police, and one supporter even accused the authorities of throwing away his spectacles.

Videos capturing these events have surfaced online, adding to the public’s reaction.

The district administration provided their perspective, stating that the protest led by Kishor and his supporters was “unlawful” as it took place at Gandhi Maidan, a restricted area. They clarified that the protesters were informed in advance to move to Gardanibagh, the designated protest site, but they refused to comply.

The administration emphasized that despite giving multiple warnings and adequate time, the protestors did not vacate the area, which forced them to take action.

“Jan Suraaj Party’s Prashant Kishor and some other people were illegally protesting in front of the Gandhi statue in the restricted area of Gandhi Maidan, Patna, for their five-point demands. The administration had issued a notice to move from there to the designated place, Gardanibagh, for the protest,”

-said Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh.

Notably, Prashant Kishor had been on a hunger strike since January 2 to support students demanding the cancellation of the BPSC exam. This demand arose following allegations of a question paper leak. Following his arrest, the situation became tense, leading to clashes between the police and Kishor’s supporters.

Many of his followers condemned his arrest, accusing the government of trying to suppress the protest due to fear of the growing unity that Kishor had cultivated among the public.

The events surrounding Kishor’s arrest and the subsequent reactions reflect the intensity of the ongoing BPSC exam controversy and the larger issues of governance and accountability in Bihar.
