Bengaluru: A court in Bengaluru on Friday directed the Member Secretary of the Bengaluru City Legal Services Authority to personally visit the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison and check the conditions in which popular actor Darshan is being held.

Darshan, who is an accused in the Renukaswamy murder case and is currently lodged in the prison under judicial custody, has complained that he is being denied basic facilities while in jail.

The 57th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court, which is hearing the case, has partially allowed an application filed by Darshan’s legal team seeking a personal inspection of the prison.

The court stated that the inspection is necessary to verify the truth of Darshan’s complaints.

The court has directed the official,

“the Member Secretary of the Bengaluru City Legal Services Authority”

to visit the jail and verify the conditions in which Darshan is being kept.

The inspection should ascertain whether the prison authorities are following previous court orders and if Darshan is being provided with the facilities mentioned in the jail manual. The report of this inspection is expected to be submitted by October 18.

Darshan was previously moved from Parappana Agrahara Prison to Ballari jail after allegations that he was receiving preferential treatment in violation of prison rules.

He was later released on bail, but following the Supreme Court’s cancellation of his bail, he was sent back to Parappana Agrahara jail.

The court’s instructions reflect the importance of ensuring that all inmates, regardless of their public profile, are treated according to the rules and receive basic amenities while in custody.
