BENGALURU: Today(on 10th June), Prajwal Revanna, the former Member of Parliament from the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)), has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody by a Bengaluru court. The court’s decision follows serious allegations of rape and sexual abuse against Revanna, bringing a high-profile political figure into the legal spotlight.
The controversy erupted when explicit videos allegedly showing women being sexually abused by Revanna surfaced. The circulation of these videos led to widespread outrage and immediate action from law enforcement. Following the video’s release, Prajwal Revanna fled to Germany, a move that raised suspicions and intensified the scrutiny around the case.
In response to the allegations and the circulating videos, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to delve into the case. The SIT has been actively pursuing the investigation, which included tracking Revanna’s movements and securing his return to India for questioning.
On June 10, the former JD(S) MP was produced before a Bengaluru court, where the SIT sought an extension of his custody. This request was in line with the ongoing investigation’s need to gather more evidence and comprehensively interrogate the accused. The court granted the SIT’s request, extending Revanna’s custody to further facilitate the investigation.
Earlier, on June 6, the court had extended the SIT custody of Prajwal Revanna until June 10, following his appearance before the special court for elected representatives. This extension underscored the court’s recognition of the necessity for continued investigation into the severe allegations against him.
“The court recognized the necessity for additional investigation in the matter.”
-stated a spokesperson for the SIT.
The team emphasized the importance of having additional time to meticulously gather evidence and conduct thorough interrogations.
In addition to the judicial proceedings, the SIT took Prajwal Revanna to his house in Holenarasipura in Karnataka’s Hassan district for a spot inspection on Saturday.
“Prajwal Revanna was escorted to his Holenaraseepur residence under strict security measures.”
– police sources.
This step was part of the broader investigation strategy to uncover crucial evidence directly from locations associated with the accused.
The 33-year-old Revanna, who is also the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, faced a significant setback last week when he failed to retain his Hassan parliamentary constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Prajwal Revanna, the son of Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna, was arrested by Karnataka police soon after he landed at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on May 31. This marked his return to India for the first time since April 27, a day after voting took place in the Hassan seat in the state. Upon his arrival, Prajwal was seen wearing a black T-shirt and a mask as he reached his residence, which was heavily cordoned off as a precautionary measure.
The arrest of Prajwal Revanna came in the wake of a ‘Blue Corner Notice’ issued by Interpol. This notice, which seeks information on a person’s whereabouts, was issued following a request from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) via the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The notice was a crucial step in locating Prajwal after he left for Germany.
The Special Court for Elected Representatives had previously issued an arrest warrant against Prajwal on May 18, following an application moved by the SIT. Prajwal faces serious allegations, including charges of rape and sexual assault. He has been booked in three separate cases of sexual assault, and explicit videos allegedly involving him have surfaced, creating a significant stir in the Hassan area ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on April 26.
In one of the most shocking aspects of this case, pen drives containing these explicit videos were reportedly circulated widely. This led to a public outcry and intensified the investigation against Prajwal. The explicit nature of the content and the involvement of a political figure’s son added to the gravity of the situation.
Prajwal’s father, H D Revanna, and mother, Bhavani Revanna, are also embroiled in legal troubles. Both are currently out on bail in a kidnapping case that involves the abduction of a woman. This woman allegedly appeared in numerous videos of sexual assault that were purportedly linked to the political leader.
The legal proceedings against the Revanna family have drawn considerable media attention and public scrutiny. The allegations and subsequent arrests have added to the already complex political landscape in Karnataka. The involvement of high-profile individuals in such cases has raised questions about the integrity and ethical standards of public representatives.
