This information has been shared by the Mumbai Police in their chargesheet filed in court.
As per the police chargesheet, Shehzad said that he came to India only to get an Indian passport. He told police that it is easier for an Indian citizen to get work visas in foreign countries than for someone from Bangladesh.
For that reason, he first wanted to make an Aadhaar card and a PAN card. After that, he was planning to apply for an Indian passport.
Shehzad said,
“I was not well and I needed to get a PAN card and Aadhaar card made”,
and that he had spoken to someone who asked for Rs 30,000 to make fake identity documents.
The incident happened on January 16, when Shehzad entered Saif Ali Khan’s house in Bandra and stabbed him multiple times during a robbery attempt. Saif Ali Khan was badly injured and was bleeding a lot. He was taken to Lilavati Hospital quickly and got discharged five days later. Police arrested Shehzad three days after the incident from Thane.
According to police, Shehzad is from the Jhalokathi district in Bangladesh, and he entered India illegally eight months before the attack. He first stayed in Kolkata for about 15 days and then took the Gitanjali Express train to Mumbai. In Mumbai, he started working in a hotel and took leave on January 15 — the day before the attack.

Shehzad told police that he had decided to do a “small theft” so that he could arrange money to make fake Aadhaar and PAN cards.
On the night of the attack, Shehzad told police how he entered the actor’s home. He went to the roof of a building next to Saif Ali Khan’s house. From there, he jumped to the actor’s building, climbed up the back staircase, and used a cutter to break through a security net. He then entered the house through the air conditioning duct and bathroom.
Inside the house, Shehzad said,
“I saw a caregiver on her phone and another sleeping. A child (Jeh) was sleeping in the bed.”
A nanny saw Shehzad and asked what he wanted. He then demanded Rs 1 crore. At that moment, Saif Ali Khan himself entered the room and tried to stop him.
