A Mumbai court ordered a bone test to determine the age of a young man accused in the murder of Baba Siddique, following his claim that he is a minor. The accused, arrested in Uttar Pradesh, contests his age despite his Aadhaar card showing he is 19. The court delayed granting police custody until the test results are available.

Mumbai: A Mumbai court ordered a bone ossification test for the second accused in the Baba Siddique murder case to verify his age. The accused, who apprehended in Uttar Pradesh, claims to be a minor, despite his Aadhaar card indicating he is 19 years old.

As a result, his police custody has been temporarily postponed.

Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and leader within the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party, was shot dead last night outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra East, Mumbai. He was 66 years old.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has taken responsibility for the assassination, according to police. Authorities stated that three shooters were involved, two of whom have been arrested, 23-year-old Gurmail Baljit Singh from Haryana and the alleged minor from Uttar Pradesh. The third suspect, identified as Shiv Kumar Gautam, also from Uttar Pradesh, is still on the run, along with their handler, whose identity remains undisclosed.

The murder sparked a political confrontation in the lead-up to the state elections, with the opposition Congress party accusing the Eknath Shinde government of failing to maintain law and order.

Rahul Gandhi posted on X, formerly Twitter,

“The tragic loss of Baba Siddique ji is both shocking and deeply saddening. My thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. This horrific incident highlights the total breakdown of law and order in Maharashtra. The government must take responsibility, and justice must be served,”

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge posted,

“Justice must be delivered, and the current Maharashtra government must ensure a thorough and transparent investigation. The perpetrators must be brought to justice without delay. Accountability is crucial,”

Despite his Aadhaar card listing him as 19, the court has delayed police custody until the test results are available. The case hinges on whether the accused will be tried as a juvenile or an adult, a decision crucial to the legal proceedings.
