Shubham Lonkar, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of Baba Siddique, reportedly spent a month planning to kill Aftab Poonawalla at a Delhi court, according to sources. Poonawalla, accused in the Shraddha Walkar murder case, was allegedly a target due to his high-profile nature. Lonkar is believed to have conducted detailed reconnaissance of the court premises as part of the plot.

Shubham Lonkar, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, reportedly planned to kill Aftab Poonawala, the suspect arrested in the notorious Shraddha Walker murder case.
Sources indicate that Lonkar, linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, spent a month in 2022 developing a scheme to assassinate Poonawala at Delhi’s Saket Court.
Currently imprisoned in Tihar Jail No. 4, Aftab has reportedly faced threats against his life.
According to sources, members of Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang conducted surveillance for a month in preparation for the attack, but their plans were thwarted by the heavy security provided by the Delhi Police. Lonkar was allegedly brought from Mumbai to Delhi specifically to carry out the assassination and had been scouting the Saket area during Aftab’s court appearances since his arrest in 2022.
In response to media reports, the Tihar Jail administration has increased security around Poonawala. Shiv Kumar Gautam, arrested in connection with Siddique’s murder, allegedly made a disturbing statement to police about his intention to kill Aftab.
Sources confirm that Aftab has become a target for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which is reportedly plotting his murder within the prison. Jail authorities are on high alert to ensure Aftab’s safety while investigating this potential threat.
Aftab Poonawala is accused of murdering Shraddha Walker in the Mehrauli area on May 18, 2022, after which her body parts were disposed of in the jungle of Chhatarpur Pahadi. He was arrested in November 2022. Recently, on July 23, the Saket District Court denied Aftab’s plea to limit trial hearings to twice a month, stating that he was attempting to delay proceedings.
The court noted that only 134 out of 212 prosecution witnesses had been examined since June 2023, necessitating consecutive trial dates to expedite the process. Charges under sections 302 and 201 of the IPC for murder and evidence tampering have been framed against Aftab, who has pleaded not guilty and seeks a trial.
