Mumbai Police have filed a 4,590-page chargesheet against 26 accused in the Baba Siddiqui murder case, invoking MCOCA. It includes statements from 210 witnesses and outlines substantial evidence linking the accused to the crime. The motives for the murder involve personal connections and gang rivalry, with the case moving to the Special MCOCA Court for further proceedings.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police have filed a comprehensive 4,590-page chargesheet against 26 accused in the high-profile Baba Siddiqui murder case, invoking the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). The chargesheet was submitted to the Mumbai Sessions Court and will now proceed to the Special MCOCA Court.

The chargesheet includes statements from 210 witnesses and outlines substantial evidence connecting the accused to the murder. Among the 26 accused, three—Zeeshan Akhtar, Shubham Lonkar, and Anmol Bishnoi (brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi)—are currently on the run.

Police have uncovered three primary motives for Siddiqui’s murder:

  1. Siddiqui’s closeness to actor Salman Khan.
  2. Revenge for the suicide of Anuj Thapan while in police custody.
  3. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang’s intent to assert dominance.

Evidence supporting these motives includes a Facebook post by Shubham Lonkar and details of prior incidents involving the gang.

On October 12, 2024, Baba Siddiqui, a former three-time Congress MLA who recently joined the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party, was shot outside his son Zeeshan Siddiqui’s office in Nirmal Nagar. Police reports revealed that the shooters conducted weeks of surveillance before firing six rounds at Siddiqui.

The chargesheet emphasizes the role of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, known for its criminal activities, including an attack near Salman Khan’s residence earlier in 2024. On April 14, 2024, two individuals on motorcycles fired shots outside Khan’s Bandra home. The shooters, Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, were arrested later in Gujarat.

Another key figure in the case is Anuj Thapan, arrested on April 26, 2024, in Punjab. Thapan died on May 1, 2024, inside a police station toilet. While authorities claim it was a suicide, Thapan’s mother, Rita Devi, filed a petition in the Bombay High Court, alleging foul play and asserting that her son was murdered.

As the case proceeds to the Special MCOCA Court, the spotlight remains on law enforcement’s handling of the investigation and the involvement of high-profile individuals and organized crime syndicates.
