A Mumbai court has extended the police custody of four accused in the Baba Siddique murder case until October 25. Former MLA Siddique was shot on October 12 and later died in Lilavati Hospital. Mumbai: A Mumbai court has extended the police custody of four accused in the Baba Siddique murder case until October 25. This decision follows the shooting incident that occurred on October 12 in the Nirmal Nagar area of Bandra, where former MLA and NCP leader Baba Siddique was shot and grievously injured. He succumbed to his injuries at Lilavati Hospital shortly after the attack.
The accused include Gurmail Baljit Singh (23) from Haryana, Dharmaraj Kashyap (21) from Uttar Pradesh, Harish Kumar Nisad (26), and Pravin Lonkar (30) from Pune. They were presented before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate V R Patil at the Esplanade Court on Monday, marking the end of their initial remand period.
During the proceedings, the police sought an extension of custody, citing the accused’s lack of cooperation with the investigation and their provision of misleading information. The prosecution claims that Singh and Kashyap, alongside a wanted accomplice named Shivkumar Gautam, were responsible for the shooting. Reports suggest that Lonkar’s brother, Shubham, is linked to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, indicating a possible gang-related motive behind the attack.
According to police sources, the investigation has revealed that the accused conspired to execute the shooting and were involved in supplying firearms to the gunmen. Nisad, identified as a scrap dealer based in Pune, is alleged to have provided financial assistance for the operation, further complicating the case and showcasing the extensive planning behind the crime.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are focused on gathering more evidence to ensure that all individuals involved in this heinous act are brought to justice. The court’s decision to extend custody emphasizes the importance of thorough investigation and the necessity of obtaining clear and accurate information from the accused.
The tragic murder of Baba Siddique has sent shockwaves through the community, drawing attention to issues surrounding gang violence and political rivalries in Mumbai. The police’s ongoing efforts to uncover the full scope of this case will be crucial in determining the motivations behind the attack and ensuring that those responsible face appropriate legal consequences.
The next hearing is eagerly awaited as the city remains focused on the developments in this high-profile murder case.
