Arvind Kejriwal Returns to Tihar: A Review of Previous Jail Sentences

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has been sent to Tihar jail again. This marks his third time being there.

Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s Chief Minister, sent to Tihar jail once more, not for the first time.He’s been there twice before. Kejriwal now joins three other AAP lawmakers in Tihar Jail. Following a Delhi court’s decision, he moved to ward No. 4 in Tihar Jail No. 2, facing judicial custody until April 15 in connection with the excise policy case.

At present, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Satyendar Jain are housed in jail cells numbered 1, 7, and 5, respectively.

In 2011, Arvind Kejriwal faced his first arrest while protesting alongside Anna Hazare and others for the Lokpal Bill. Kejriwal spent seven days behind bars, sharing a jail with DMK leader A Raja, who was there due to corruption charges in the 2G scam case.

In 2014, Arvind Kejriwal returned to Tihar jail for a second time. This instance arose from a defamation case where he was arrested and put into judicial custody by a local court. Kejriwal refused to provide a bail bond of Rs 10,000. The case filed by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari after Kejriwal called him a “thief” and listed him among “India’s most corrupt” individuals.

In 2014, Kejriwal placed in the same Tihar jail cell where had been held after his arrest during the Lokpal movement in 2011.
