New Delhi: The Patiala House Court in Delhi, On Monday, ordered the remand of Arun Reddy, the accused linked to managing the ‘Spirit of Congress’ X account, concerning the alleged ‘deepfake morphed video’ involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Reddy, who apprehended by the Delhi Police in connection with the case, faced judicial custody until May 7, 2024. Following three days of police remand, he appeared before the court for proceedings.
Judge Neha Garg, presiding as the Additional Sessions Judge , decided to place Arun Reddy in judicial custody for a single day. Additionally, she issued a notice to the Investigation Officer of the Delhi Police regarding a bail plea submitted by Reddy.
Last week, Arun Reddy, who manages the ‘Spirit of Congress’ X account, detained by the Delhi Police in relation to the case involving a manipulated video purportedly featuring Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The video allegedly portrays Shah expressing opposition to reservations in the country on behalf of the BJP.
Speaking at a public gathering in Congress-governed Telangana, Shah stated,
“Should the BJP come into power here, we will repeal the unconstitutional reservations for Muslims. Our commitment lies in ensuring that SCs, STs, and OBCs receive quotas as enshrined in the Constitution.”
Earlier, the Telangana Police apprehended five individuals affiliated with the Congress party in connection with the dissemination of a fabricated video involving Amit Shah. This incident highlights the significance of scrutinizing digital content to ensure accuracy and prevent the spread of misinformation. Such actions by law enforcement highlight the commitment to upholding the integrity of information and maintaining public trust in media narratives.

The video led to investigations by the Delhi Police and the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police, resulting in several arrests, including that of Arun Reddy, who managed the “Spirit of Congress” handle on X.
The investigation into the edited video, which allegedly intended to incite discord among communities, currently underway. The Delhi Police also working with social media platforms to obtain information about individuals who disseminated the manipulated video.
