Jaipur: Today (16th July): A court in Ajmer acquitted six individuals who were accused of raising provocative slogans against suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma outside the Moinuddin Chishti Dargah in 2022. The slogans were allegedly in response to derogatory comments made by Sharma about the Prophet.

The trial, conducted by an additional district judge in Ajmer, led to the acquittal of Gauhar Chishti, Tazim Siddiki, Farook Zamali, Nasir, Riyaz Hasan, and Moin, as stated by public prosecutor Gulam Nazmi.

Chishti was accused of delivering a hate speech in the presence of police at the Nizam gate of the Moinudin Chishti Dargah on June 17, 2022, and subsequently organizing a rally for the Muslim community to protest Sharma’s remarks.

Sharma’s controversial comments about Prophet Muhammad during a TV debate on Times Now had gone viral, causing backlash from Muslim nations and India’s Muslim community. This led to her suspension from the BJP. Chishti was arrested as the main accused in July 2022 from Hyderabad for his response to Sharma’s comments.

Following his acquittal, Chishti expressed his gratitude, stating,

“Justice has been served in my case. I want to thank the government.”
