Kannada actor Darshan, out on bail in a fan murder case, has sought court permission to travel abroad. Prosecutors fear he may not return if allowed to leave the country.

Bengaluru: Today, On May 28, Kannada superstar Darshan has asked the Bengaluru trial court for permission to travel abroad while he is out on conditional bail in a fan murder case.
On Wednesday, he filed a petition before the City Civil and Sessions Court under Section 439 (1) (b) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). He wants to travel to Dubai and Europe between June 1 and June 25.

However, the Special Public Prosecutor opposed the plea.
The prosecutor told the court,
“If Darshan goes out of the country, it is doubtful whether he will return.”
The court is expected to make a decision on the matter by the end of the day.
After getting bail, Darshan has resumed work and is currently busy shooting for his next movie, ‘Devil’. Earlier, the court had ordered that he must stay within Bengaluru.
Later, he got permission to travel outside the city, and now he has asked for approval to visit foreign countries.
Darshan, his partner Pavithra, and 15 others were arrested on June 11, 2024, in a case related to the kidnapping and brutal murder of Renukaswamy, a fan from Chitradurga.
According to police investigations, Renukaswamy had sent offensive and vulgar messages to Pavithra. He was upset that Darshan was still in a relationship with Pavithra despite being married.
Sources close to the actor said that
“Pavithra competed with Darshan’s wife, Vijayalakshmi, over jewellery and luxury cars.”
She also allegedly pressurised Darshan to appear publicly with her after he was seen with his wife.
“She allegedly pressured Darshan to make public appearances with her after he had been seen with his wife.”
There were also public arguments between Pavithra and Vijayalakshmi on social media. These disputes created a divide among Darshan’s fanbase. Renukaswamy, who supported Vijayalakshmi, criticised Pavithra.

According to the police,
“a move that ultimately led to his brutal murder.”
The Karnataka Police have appealed to the Supreme Court against the bail granted to Darshan and the others involved.
On January 24, the Supreme Court issued notices to Darshan, Pavithra, and five others based on the appeal made by the state government. While granting bail earlier, the court had ordered that Darshan and the other accused must appear before it every month.
Darshan, who is the second accused in the case, was recently seen in a new controversy. He attended a movie premiere even though he was supposed to be absent from court due to health issues.

This move raised concerns because he was seen watching the film with actor Chikkanna, who is a key witness in the same case.
According to legal rules,
“accused persons, who are out on bail, are not allowed to meet witnesses involved in the case.”
On April 8, the court hearing the case expressed strong disapproval when Darshan didn’t attend the session and claimed to be suffering from severe back pain.
The Civil and Sessions Judge clearly said,
“Darshan must appear before the court in all future hearings and that no excuses for his absence would be entertained.”
Most recently, on May 21, Karnataka Police filed an additional charge sheet against Darshan and other accused persons involved in this high-profile case.
