[BREAKING] AAP Leader Sanjay Singh Surrenders in UP Court | Gets Bail in 23 Year Old Case on Personal Bond of Rs 50k

Today, On 28th August, AAP MP Sanjay Singh granted relief in a 23-year-old case by the Special Magistrate’s Court at the Sultanpur MP-MLA Court. After appearing before the court on Wednesday, Singh was ordered to be released on a personal bond of Rs. 50,000.

Sultanpur (UP): In a 23-year-old case involving a protest and roadblock against the BSP government, Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who previously found guilty, appeared before Special Magistrate Shubham Verma at the MP-MLA Court on Wednesday after obtaining bail from the High Court.

Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh surrendered before special court in relation to a 2001 street protest case and subsequently granted bail.

His advocate, Madan Singh, stated,

“Sanjay Singh appeared before the MP-MLA court and was granted bail on a ₹50,000 surety bond,”

The surety posted following the directives of the Allahabad High Court, which had stayed the execution of the sentence imposed by the Sultanpur court on August 22

Accompanied by his legal representatives, Arvind Singh Raja and Rudra Pratap Singh Madan, the court ordered his release on a personal bond of Rs. 50,000.

The incident, which took place on June 19, 2001, led to the police filing a chargesheet in the MP-MLA Court against several individuals, including Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, former MLA Anoop Sanda, former councillor Kamal Srivastava, current nominated councilor Vijay, former Congress spokesperson Santosh Kumar, former BJP city president Subhash Chaudhary, and Prem Prakash, with Judge Ekta Verma presiding.

During the proceedings, Prem Prakash passed away, while the trial continued for the remaining six individuals. Eventually, MP-MLA Court Magistrate Yogesh Yadav sentenced all six to three months of imprisonment and a fine of Rs.1,500 each. After their appeal to stay the sentence denied by Judge Ekta Verma’s court, the MP-MLA Magistrate Court ordered them to surrender on August 9.

Earlier, Singh and five others convicted by a Sultanpur court on January 11, 2023, and their appeal subsequently dismissed by the sessions court on August 6, 2023. On August 13, the MP-MLA court in Sultanpur issued a non-bailable warrant against Sanjay Singh, Samajwadi Party leader Anoop Sanda, and four others.

Sultanpur court in Uttar Pradesh ordered the arrest of Sanjay Singh on August 20 in connection with a 23-year-old case, instructing the police to present him before the court on August 28. The court expressed strong disapproval of Sanjay Singh’s absence from the hearing of this two-decade-old case.

Earlier, on August 13, the MP-MLA court issued a non-bailable warrant against Singh, Samajwadi Party leader Anoop Sanda, and four others, with the hearing set for Tuesday. However, the accused did not appear before the court.

Their advocate, Madan Singh, mentioned that a bail petition for Singh and Sanda has been submitted to the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, with a hearing scheduled for August 22. He added that the date for the next hearing in the MP/MLA court of Special Magistrate Shubham Verma will be decided later in the evening.

On June 19, 2001, a protest led by former SP MLA Anoop Sanda held near an overbridge close to the city’s Sabzi Mandi area, in response to poor electricity supply. Sanjay Singh, along with former councillors Kamal Srivastava, Vijay Kumar, Santosh, and Subhash Chaudhary, participated in the demonstration.

A case filed against all of them at the Kotwali Nagar Police StationOn January 11, 2023, Special Magistrate Yogesh Yadav convicted all six individuals, sentencing them to three months in prison.

On August 9, the MP/MLA court ordered the six to appear before it. When they failed to comply, Special Magistrate Shubham Verma issued non-bailable warrants for their arrest.
