Yesterday, On 7th March, The man who pointed a gun at a cop during the 2020 Delhi riots has been granted 15 days’ interim bail. A court approved his temporary release under specific conditions. His case remains under legal proceedings. The incident was a key moment during the riots.

New Delhi: Shahrukh Pathan, who gained media attention for aiming a pistol at a policeman during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots, was granted 15 days of interim bail on Friday to care for his ailing father.
Pathan is accused of being part of a violent mob that shot a person near Maujpur Chowk on February 24, 2020.
Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai heard Pathan’s plea for interim bail based on his father’s serious medical condition, stating that,
“The needed to take care of his ailing father and arrange funds for his family.”
The judge considered medical documents indicating that Pathan’s father suffers from multiple ailments and has been hospitalized. The investigating officer provided photographs showing the father’s deteriorating health condition.
The court stated,
“Considering the medical condition of the father of the applicant or accused (Pathan) and the necessity of the applicant’s presence for caring for his ailing father and arranging funds for the family, the court finds it just and appropriate to grant 15 days’ interim bail to the applicant, subject to his furnishing a personal bond of Rs.20,000 with one surety of the same amount,”
Additional bail conditions require Pathan to provide his mobile phone number and keep the device switched on at all times, refrain from contacting any witnesses or co-accused, and report to the police station every alternate day.
The court concluded,
“The period of 15 days shall begin from the date of his release. The applicant is directed to surrender before the concerned jail superintendent upon the expiration of 15 days,”

The case is from the 2020 Delhi riots, which happened in North-East Delhi during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The accused, Shahrukh Pathan, was seen on camera pointing a gun at a Delhi Police officer during the violence.
His photo holding the gun and facing the unarmed cop became a big symbol of the riots.
Later, police arrested him and charged him with rioting, trying to kill, and keeping a gun illegally. Since then, he has been in jail, and courts earlier rejected his bail requests. Now, he has been given 15 days of temporary bail with strict rules.
