Swami Vivekananda Was a Great Personality and India’s Top International Ambassador of Culture: CJI Surya Kant

Today, On 12th January, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant paid tribute to Swami Vivekananda on his birth anniversary, calling him “India’s greatest international ambassador of culture and philosophy.” He said Vivekananda’s visionary teachings are full of moral values and inspire the nation.

His remarks came during a blood donation camp organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and Adhivakta Parishad.

CJI Surya Kant emphasized the significance of Vivekananda’s words, describing them as “important, visionary, full of moral and ethical values,” which highlight India’s rich heritage.

He noted that Vivekananda’s teachings remain crucial for both the younger generation and the nation as a whole, calling him a “great personality.”

January 12, known as National Youth Day or Vivekananda Jayanti, celebrates the birth of the Hindu monk.

The Indian government designated this day as National Youth Day in 1984, and it has been observed annually since 1985.

The blood donation camp took place in the Supreme Court lawns, attended by various judges and senior lawyers.

After inaugurating the event, CJI Surya Kant addressed reporters, stating,

“Each word he [Vivekananda] spoke was important, visionary, full of moral and ethical values and promoted our great country’s rich heritage and cultural values. He was India’s greatest international ambassador of culture and philosophy.”

He characterized Vivekananda as a forward-thinking leader whose ideas still connect with modern India, particularly among the youth.

The Chief Justice remarked,

“Swami Vivekananda was a great personality. I believe his teachings will always remain relevant and are extremely important for the new generation and for this country.”

The camp took place on the lawns of the Supreme Court as part of the annual commemoration of Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary, which the Government of India designated as National Youth Day in 1984.

Since 1985, this day has been celebrated across the nation to honor the life and teachings of the 19th-century monk, celebrated for his inspiring speeches on spiritual and national rejuvenation.

The event saw enthusiastic involvement from members of the legal community, reinforcing the judiciary’s dedication to public service and the national values championed by Vivekananda.
