Supreme Court Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah: "Get Personally Involved In Your Job, Use Your Real Life Experience"

PATNA: Supreme Court Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah said that, “Get Personally Involved In Your Job, Use Your Real Life Experience” while talking about Permanent Lok Adalat.

While speaking at the ‘Induction-cum-Orientation Programme’ for newly recruited Chairman and Member of Permanent Lok Adalat, he addressed Lok Adalat system, how it works.

Justice Amanullah staeted with a brief introduction of Lok Adalat and said that, The Legal Services Authority was established under a statute, which many are already familiar with. From this framework emerged the Lok Adalat system, including special Lok Adalats held a few times a year, and now, the Permanent Lok Adalat.

“The term “Permanent Court” essentially means a people’s court that is always available. While the words “permanent” and “people” reflect its inclusive spirit, the term “court” might give the impression of formal legal proceedings. But in reality, it’s more of a space where individuals can sit across a table, talk openly, and resolve their disputes.”

He emphasized on the words of Justice Ashutosh Kumar, most conflicts arise from basic, emotional issues. Understanding people’s emotions and perspectives is key—and for that, the most critical element is your mindset.

He interactedwith the chairman and members,

“what do you think is the most essential quality or preparation for a chairman or member of a Permanent Lok Adalat? Is there something within you that needs to shift or adapt?”

He emphasized that

“The Permanent Lok Adalat is not merely a court in the traditional sense but a people’s forum that demands empathy, unity, and emotional intelligence from its members.”

He further highlighted that,

“True justice goes beyond legal procedures, it lies in creating an atmosphere of trust and understanding among the chairman and members themselves.”

Justice Amanullah stressed that

“Without mutual respect and a shared mindset among the three members of the bench, effective dispute resolution is not possible. The members to shed their judicial rigidity and step down to the level of the litigants, understanding their emotions, backgrounds, and concerns.”

He underscored the importance of resolving disputes through patience, compassion, and human connection rather than defaulting to adjudication.

According to him, the success of the Lok Adalat lies in its ability to resolve matters before they escalate into long, drawn-out court battles, ultimately offering people a sense of finality and peace.

He reminded members that their work carries a moral responsibility to act with integrity, free from ego, bias, or pressure.

Justice Amanullah concluded by saying that

“If we truly care about the next generation, we must build a just, safe society for them and that work begins with the fairness and sincerity shown in these people’s courts. We need to get personally involved In our job and use our real life experience.”
