New Delhi: The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) and the New Delhi Bar Association (NDBA) have both strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, which took place on Tuesday.

The incident, which resulted in the tragic loss of innocent lives, has shocked the legal community and the nation.

The attack happened in Pahalgam, once known for its peace and natural beauty, but now marked by grief. It is said to be one of the biggest terror attacks in the region since Article 370 was abrogated in 2019. The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched a search operation in the Baisran area of Pahalgam to catch those responsible.

The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) issued a public statement denouncing the act, calling it a direct attack on India’s peace, unity, and sovereignty.

Speaking to ANI, Senior Advocate N Hariharan, President of the Delhi High Court Bar Association, said:
“The bar has given its response. We have released a press release. We are also going to wear white bands in the protest over the incident. The incident was a cowardly act. It is attacking the sovereignty, integrity, and unity of our nation. We strongly condemn and urge the government to take immediate action and take measures against such incidents…”

The DHCBA further added that members would wear white bands as a mark of protest and stressed the need for immediate government action to prevent such attacks in the future.

The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir yesterday i.e. 22.04.2025, an incident that has deeply shaken the conscience of our entire nation.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this senseless act of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this time of immeasurable grief. The Association stands in unwavering solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, an integral part of our country and the nation as a whole. We fervently hope for an end to the cycle of violence and innocent killings carried out in the name of religion or politics. It is our earnest prayer that peace, unity, and harmony prevail so that our nation may continue to progress together in strength and brotherhood.

Let this be a solemn reminder of the values we hold dear as a nation—justice, peace, and unity. May we all strive towards a future where such tragedies no longer find a place in our society.

Senior Advocate Sachin Puri, Vice President of the Delhi High Court Bar Association, also expressed strong condemnation.

He said:
“I, on my behalf, on behalf of the Executive Committee of the Delhi High Court Bar Association and on behalf of our members, condemn this attack which has been carried out. It’s a cowardly act of the terrorists attacking innocent tourists, and we strongly condemn it. In fact, as a mark of protest, the members of the bar are today wearing black ribbons on their arms…”

While some members wore white bands, others chose to wear black ribbons on their arms to show their deep anguish and protest against the attack.

The New Delhi Bar Association (NDBA) also shared its grief and expressed deep sorrow over the brutal incident. The association conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

The NDBA said it stands united with the victims and their families, and condemned the cowardly attack in the strongest words. As a tribute to the lives lost, the NDBA requested all its members to assemble in the Central Hall in the evening to pay homage.

Reiterating its position, the DHCBA highlighted that such acts of terror are not only cowardly but also deeply threaten the country’s unity and national integrity. The association reaffirmed its commitment to justice, law, and national security.

The Executive Committee of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, Chandigarh, expresses its strongest condemnation of the brutal and inhuman killing of innocent tourists in Pahalgam. This heinous act of terror is not only a grave crime against the victims and their families, but also an appalling assault on the principles of peace, justice, and humanity that form the bedrock of our nation.

We are deeply shocked and saddened by this senseless tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones. We extend our heartfelt condolences and unwavering support to them in this time of profound grief. Their sorrow is shared by every citizen of this country”.

We urge the Government of India to take swift and the severest possible action to identify, apprehend, and prosecute the perpetrators and all those who aid or abet such barbarity. Justice must be ensured promptly and resolutely”.

The legal fraternity stands in absolute solidarity with the people of India in rejecting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. These cowardly attacks will never succeed in dividing us. On the contrary, they strengthen our collective resolve to uphold the ideals of unity, peace, and the rule of law.

Let it be declared unequivocally: the lives lost in this act of terror will not be forgotten, and such violence will never find acceptance in our society. As officers of the law and as responsible citizens, we reaffirm our commitment to justice and to safeguarding the dignity, liberty, and life of every innocent person”.

As a mark of respect and solidarity with the victims and their families, the Bar Association requests all its members to wear black armbands in courts. This gesture symbolizes our collective grief and unwavering commitment to justice.

The entire legal fraternity has come together in grief and protest, urging the government to act decisively. Their symbolic protest with black ribbons and white bands reflects their serious concern and solidarity with the affected families.
