NEW DELHI: Today(on 26th April), The Supreme Court of India has taken a significant step forward by introducing an automated WhatsApp messaging service for legal updates, as announced by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Dr. Adish C Aggarwala. This innovative move aims to enhance the accessibility of judicial processes for attorneys and litigants alike, marking a milestone in the court’s efforts to integrate technology in its operations.

Dr Aggarwala welcomed the introduction of the automated WhatsApp messaging service, stating that it will greatly benefit both members of the legal profession and litigants. Through this service, individuals can easily access cause lists, receive filing and listing related messages, as well as stay updated on orders and judgments, all through their mobile phones. By leveraging the convenience and popularity of WhatsApp, the Supreme Court is taking a significant step towards improving the efficiency and user-friendliness of the justice delivery system.

“The introduction of the Supreme Court of India’s new IT service featuring automated WhatsApp messages is set to facilitate access for members of the bar and litigants. They can now conveniently access cause lists, receive filing and listing-related messages, as well as access orders and judgments directly on their mobile phones.”

He further commended the Supreme Court, under the leadership of CJI DY Chandrachud, for being the first apex court in the world to implement such litigant-friendly measures across all aspects of its operations.

“Despite challenges, the Supreme Court has emerged as a global leader in case disposal. Judges and the Supreme Court registry have devoted their efforts to enhancing the delivery of justice, ensuring efficiency in the justice delivery system.”

– Dr Aggarwala’s statement highlighted the Supreme Court’s remarkable achievements in case resolution and the unwavering commitment of its judges and registry towards improving the justice delivery system.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, while making the announcement, expressed his belief that this seemingly small initiative has the potential to create a significant impact. He acknowledged the ubiquitous presence of WhatsApp messenger in our daily lives and its role as a powerful communication tool.

By integrating WhatsApp messaging services into the Supreme Court’s IT infrastructure, the right to access to justice will be strengthened, and transparency in the judicial system will be enhanced.

The integration of WhatsApp messaging services will not only facilitate seamless communication between the Supreme Court and advocates but also bring about positive changes in daily work habits. This digital approach will reduce reliance on traditional paper-based processes, leading to a more eco-friendly and sustainable approach to case management.
