Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut criticised Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar for felicitating CJI Surya Kant while party name and symbol disputes are pending before the Supreme Court. Raut termed the act a “demise of justice” and alleged conflict of interest as the cases remain undecided for over three years.

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) has raised serious concerns after Maharashtra Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar felicitated Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, at a time when the long-pending disputes related to the Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party names and symbols are still awaiting final decision before the Supreme Court.

Reacting sharply to the incident, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said that the fate of both the Shiv Sena and NCP cases appeared to have been sealed the very moment Eknath Shinde felicitated the Chief Justice at the Mumbai airport and later again at a public function.

Raut alleged that Shinde had “hijacked” the party founded by Uddhav Thackeray along with its election symbol, and claimed that such a public interaction raised serious questions about fairness and neutrality.

According to Raut, the act of felicitating the Chief Justice while crucial cases involving the same political parties are pending before the apex court amounts to a clear conflict of interest and reflects what he described as a “demise of justice”. He also objected to the public praise showered by Shinde on the Chief Justice during the event.

Sharing a photograph of Chief Justice Kant with Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar on social media, Raut remarked,

“The bow, the arrow, and the clock have struck their verdict!!!! O Goddess of Justice, forgive them! Oh Ram!”

He further questioned the silence of the system and asked why no objection was raised over such an act when the court is expected to deliver a verdict in a case that has been pending for more than three years. Raut said,

“Where is the justice? The CJI and Supreme Court that are supposed to deliver their verdict on our more than three-year-old case, but the person (Eknath Shinde) should be reprimanded and punished; however, here he is not only with the CJI, but he is also felicitating him, and no word has been raised over it. Its irony of the judiciary and its hollow system,”

He added that despite waiting patiently for over three years, Shiv Sena (UBT) continues to receive repeated hearing dates without any final outcome, and claimed that they were seeing “no justice at all”.

On the other hand, speaking during the felicitation ceremony, Eknath Shinde praised Chief Justice Surya Kant and expressed strong confidence in his leadership of the judiciary. Shinde said that as long as a justice-loving individual holds the position of Chief Justice, democracy and the Constitution remain safe.

He further claimed that Maharashtra’s conviction rate, which earlier stood at 9 percent, has now increased to 40 percent, and that the government is aiming to raise it to 60 percent in the near future.

Shinde also used a metaphor to describe the Chief Justice, saying that he was like a shining sun and that ordinary citizens would receive justice under his leadership, just as the sun provides light to all.

Highlighting the Chief Justice’s personal background, Shinde said,

Shinde said,

“CJI Surya Kant is the son of a farmer, and through hard work and dedication, he reached the top post in the judiciary. His life journey is an inspiration for every youth,”
