The court commissioner presented a survey report in Chandausi Court regarding the contentious Sambhal Jama Masjid-Harihar case, heightening regional tensions. Since the violence erupted on November 24 resulting in four deaths, authorities arrested 50 individuals, including a key suspect identified via CCTV. Enhanced security measures aim to maintain public safety amidst ongoing communal concerns.

Sambhal: The court commissioner submitted his survey report in Chandausi Court on Thursday (2nd Jan) in the ongoing Sambhal Jama Masjid-Harihar case, further intensifying the situation in the region. The survey was ordered by the local court to investigate claims that the site of the mosque was originally a Harihar temple.
Tensions have been high since November 19, when the court first directed the survey of the mosque. The order led to violent clashes on November 24, during which stone-pelting incidents resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to several others, including officials and locals. The violence sparked outrage and concerns over public safety in the district.
On December 30, a delegation from the Samajwadi Party visited Sambhal to express solidarity with the victims’ families. They handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of those killed in the unrest.
Earlier, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Sambhal, Shrish Chandra, confirmed that 50 people have been arrested in connection with the violence. Among them, an individual named Adnan, identified through CCTV footage, was apprehended from Delhi’s Batla House and later sent to jail.
“So far, 50 people have been arrested after the incident of violence in Sambhal. A person named Adnan, who was wanted, was identified on the basis of CCTV and arrested from Batla House in Delhi and sent to jail. The person and his companions were involved in the incident,”
said ASP Chandra.
Authorities are now gathering information about others involved in the clashes, including those who may have provided shelter to the accused. The local police are working closely with other law enforcement agencies to trace absconding suspects and ensure accountability.
The violence during the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) examination of the Mughal-era mosque has raised serious concerns over communal harmony and public safety. Security measures in the region have been tightened to prevent further unrest.
As the case unfolds, the submitted court-ordered survey report could have far-reaching implications, impacting both the legal and communal landscape in Sambhal. Local authorities and community leaders are being urged to handle the situation with sensitivity to maintain peace.
