Reports say police will attend Samay Raina’s upcoming shows as audience members to check if women feel uncomfortable or offended. The comedian is facing more scrutiny, with legal troubles adding to his problems. His shows are now being closely watched because of the ongoing controversy. This has put pressure on both his career and public image.
Samay Raina, who recently gained attention due to the controversy surrounding his show India’s Got Latent, is now facing additional personal complications. Following the cancellation of his performances in Gujarat due to public backlash, he has been advised to take extra precautions for his upcoming shows.
The situation has intensified, resulting in increased scrutiny and concerns regarding his safety and the successful execution of future gigs. As a result, the comedian, known for his sharp wit and charm, is dealing with both professional and personal challenges as the fallout continues to impact his career.
Reports indicate that a member of Raina’s legal team visited the Khar police station on Tuesday evening to represent him. She informed the authorities that Raina is currently away on tour but assured them of his full cooperation with the ongoing inquiry.
The police also plan to contact BookMyShow to gather information about ticket purchasers and attendees of the show, aiming to ascertain if any audience members, particularly women, felt offended, uncomfortable, or had their dignity compromised during the performance, where allegedly inappropriate jokes were made.
An officer noted that the investigation will focus on whether any such distress was experienced during the event.
On Wednesday, Raina took to X, stating,
“Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you.”
Currently in the United States, Raina’s lawyer had requested an extension for his appearance before the police, but the request was denied. Authorities have now instructed him to present himself for questioning as soon as possible.
If Samay Raina is absconding and fails to respond to multiple summons, law enforcement agencies have several legal options to ensure his compliance:
1. Issuing Multiple Summons:
Authorities can continue to issue summons under relevant sections of the law, giving him a chance to appear voluntarily.
2. Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW):
If he repeatedly ignores summons, the police can approach the court to issue a non-bailable warrant (NBW), compelling him to appear.
3. Lookout Circular (LOC):
Since Raina is currently abroad, agencies can issue a Lookout Circular (LOC), which would alert immigration authorities at all Indian airports, preventing him from leaving or entering unnoticed.
4. Red Corner Notice (RCN) via Interpol:
If he remains abroad and evades investigation, authorities can request Interpol to issue a Red Corner Notice (RCN), leading to his detention in another country.
5. Property Attachment (Under Section 82 & 83 CrPC):
If he is officially declared an absconder by the court, the police can initiate proceedings under Section 82 (proclamation for an absconder) and Section 83 (attachment of property) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). This allows them to seize his assets.
In cases where financial fraud or economic offenses are involved, the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (2018) can be applied, leading to the seizure of his assets globally.
If Raina continues to avoid appearing before authorities, these legal measures can be escalated to ensure compliance with the investigation.
