Madhya Pradesh: Former Madhya Pradesh High Court judge Justice Rohit Arya has been appointed as the coordinator for the BJP’s State Committee on One Nation, One Election. BJP State President Vishnu Dutt Sharma made the announcement, also appointing Pushyamitra Bhargava as co-coordinator.

Justice Arya joined the BJP in July 2022, just three months after his retirement. Speaking to Bar and Bench last year, he revealed that his “philosophy for common good has always been in line with the BJP’s ideals.”

The former judge has had his share of the spotlight during his judicial career. In 2020, he faced criticism after granting bail to a man accused of molesting a woman on the condition that the victim ties a Rakhi to her assailant. Additionally, he denied bail to comedian Munawar Faruqui in a case alleging “hurting religious sentiments” and raised concerns over religious conversions during his tenure.

Justice Arya’s new role as coordinator aligns with the BJP’s push for the One Nation, One Election initiative, aimed at synchronizing elections across the country. This appointment is seen as a strategic move by the BJP as it seeks to advance this significant policy initiative in Madhya Pradesh.
