Rohini Court Bar Association: "White Shirt, Black Pants Only For Lawyers. Public Banned From Wearing Lawyer Like Attire"

NEW DELHI: In a recent move to protect litigants and uphold the sanctity of the legal profession, the Rohini Court Bar Association (RCBA) has issued a notice dated July 15, barring clerks, litigants, and members of the general public from wearing white shirts and black pants while visiting the district court complex.

This decision follows several complaints regarding touts impersonating advocates or their clerks, misleading and defrauding uneducated litigants. The attire, white shirt and black pants, is now strictly reserved for advocates as a symbol of professional identity and the dignity of the legal fraternity.

The Rohini Court Bar Association emphasized that the restriction aims to prevent unauthorized individuals from blending in with legal professionals by imitating their dress. The notice dated 15th July stated,

“It is hereby notified that no clerk, litigant, or member of the general public is permitted to wear a white shirt and black pants during their visit to the court complex.”

Previously, the bar association had mandated ID cards for clerks to curb fraudulent practices, but the misuse of courtroom attire persisted. The association stated that several respected bar members and numerous litigants had raised concerns about such impersonation.

The notice issued earlier stated,

“It has come to the notice of the executive committee of RCBA, through several respected members of the bar and multiple complaints from the general public and litigants, that a number of touts are falsely representing themselves as official advocates or clerks of advocates. These individuals are misleading and defrauding uneducated litigants under false pretences.”
