Today, On 27th September, The CBI identified significant lapses in the inquest report related to the RG Kar case. Investigators pointed out procedural failures and inconsistencies in the documentation of the incident. These discrepancies are now a key focus of the investigation, raising concerns over possible manipulation or oversight.

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) identified significant shortcomings in the inquest report related to the R.G. Kar rape and murder case, according to sources on Friday.

One of the major issues highlighted was that the magistrate had only 20 minutes to inspect the victim’s bodya notably short time given the gravity of the case.

In legal context, an inquest report is a document that details the findings of a police officer or magistrate during an inquiry into a death that is sudden, violent, or unexplained, helping to determine if the death was unnatural or suspicious.

Sources further revealed that the investigative team believes unnecessary haste was shown, not only in preparing the inquest report but also during the autopsy, which was completed in just 70 minutes.

Investigating officials have identified a second significant lapse in the R.G. Kar rape-murder case, citing the lack of detailed descriptions of the victim’s wounds in the inquest report, according to sources.

A third issue pointed out by sources was the absence of thorough descriptions of the various exhibits found near the victim’s body during the examination for the inquest report.

Additionally, investigators uncovered major discrepancies between the contents of the post-mortem report and the seizure list provided by city police, who initially handled the investigation before it transferred to the central agency following a Supreme Court directive.

These contradictions, sources noted, include inconsistencies regarding the victim’s clothing. The female doctor was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances in the seminar hall of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. So far, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.

The Kolkata rape-murder case, involving the brutal assault and killing of a 32-year-old trainee doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College in August 2024, triggered nationwide outrage and protests. The victim was found dead in a hospital seminar room, sparking immediate suspicion of foul play. The post-mortem confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted and suffered grievous injuries. Investigators suspect gang rape, as the autopsy revealed a significant amount of semen and evidence of multiple perpetrators involved.

The accused, Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, arrested and charged with rape and murder. The investigation also expanded to include potential involvement of others, with a focus on hospital staff, given delays and mishandling of initial reports. Protests by junior doctors escalated as they demanded a thorough and fair investigation, accusing authorities of negligence and suppression of evidence. The case has since been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), following public and legal pressure.

The R G Kar Medical College case attracted widespread attention due to the severity of the crime. The murder and alleged rape of a junior doctor inside the medical institution have shocked the public. Sanjay Roy remains the only person arrested and named in connection with the case, although the CBI has indicated that there may be other individuals involved, suggesting the possibility of a gang rape.
