The CBI informed the court that former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh was willfully absent from the crime scene in the Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder case. Investigators suspect that Ghosh may have been influenced by external parties, which could have affected his actions during the investigation. His absence has raised questions about his role and conduct in the case.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), now leading the investigation into the rape and murder of a Kolkata doctor following a court directive, suspects that former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh may have been influenced by others in his actions.
While requesting an extension of Ghosh’s remand, the CBI informed the court that he was “wilfully absent” from the crime scene during key moments of the investigation.
The agency criticized Ghosh for not adequately overseeing the investigation process and failing to take necessary actions to secure the crime scene. This, according to the CBI, led to delays in filing the First Information Report (FIR).
Additionally, the CBI noted that there was a two-day delay in seizing the clothes and belongings of the accused, Sanjay Roy, despite his involvement being known as early as the morning of August 10.
The CBI told the court,
“Ghosh also failed to ensure the registration of a proper FIR under the appropriate section of law,”
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) stated that it needs to investigate whether Sandip Ghosh’s actions influenced by other individuals or were part of a larger conspiracy.
The court has since extended Ghosh’s remand until September 20.
Ghosh, along with Station House Officer Abhijit Mondal of Tala Police Station, arrested by the CBI last week in connection with the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor. Both were brought before a special court the following day, where the CBI requested their custody for further investigation.
During the proceedings, the CBI suggested that a “larger conspiracy” may be involved in the RG Kar doctor’s rape and murder case.
The agency also raised concerns about Mondal’s involvement, indicating a possible link between him and Ghosh.
