KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress general secretary Kunal Ghosh filed a defamation suit against the RG Kar rape and murder victim’s father. The grieving parent, who has consistently alleged political interference and a compromised CBI investigation, now faces fresh legal pressure.
Just hours after filing the case at Bankshall Court in Kolkata, the victim’s father stood firm on his allegations, declaring,
“We don’t want to give importance to him (Kunal Ghosh). Till justice is served, our fight will continue. Our lawyer will respond to the defamation case once we receive the notice.”
The father had earlier alleged that Ghosh acted as an intermediary between the West Bengal government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to “settle” the case with money. According to him, Ghosh even visited the CBI office at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake to finalize the arrangement.
A week prior, Kunal Ghosh had issued a legal notice demanding a public apology. With no retraction forthcoming, he moved ahead with the defamation suit.

In his defense, Ghosh stated,
“I sympathise with the victim’s family. But that doesn’t mean we can say things that are not true in someone’s name. I have filed a defamation case. Now they will have to prove their allegations in court.”
On social media, he criticised the father’s accusations, calling them false, irresponsible, and dramatic. He questioned the credibility of the claims and stressed that spreading such misinformation could not be tolerated.

The father remains unwavering, insisting that the CBI’s investigation has been compromised.
“CBI officers told me they will drop this case. I told them instead of telling me, tell the court. But we believe CBI has taken money from the state government. Kunal Ghosh went to the CGO Complex office in Kolkata and made a settlement,”
he alleged.
For him, the legal battle is not just about accusations; it’s about justice for his daughter.
The defamation case has sparked outrage among doctors, activists, and opposition leaders.
Dr. Aniket Mahato of the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front slammed the lawsuit as a “deliberate attempt to silence the parents.”
BJP MLA Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury criticised Ghosh’s move, urging him to withdraw the case.
“The family is going through so much. I would request Kunal Ghosh to refrain and withdraw the case against the parents. It feels as though no one killed her.”
Despite attempts to intimidate the Victim’s father, he asserts,
“We cannot back down from our commitment to demand justice for our daughter. No force can stop us from this fight. The fight against Kunal Ghosh will be through legal means.”
