A 20-year-old second-year MBBS student from RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata was found hanging in her hostel room on Friday. Her worried mother, a doctor at Kamarhati ESI Hospital, broke open the door after receiving no response to repeated calls and found her lifeless body. Police have not found a suicide note and are investigating the case as unnatural death. The incident comes after the brutal rape and murder of a female doctor at the same hospital last year, sparking concerns over student safety.

The girl was in her second year of MBBS and was discovered in her room at the Kamarhati ESI Hospital quarters, where her mother works as a doctor.
The police confirmed that her father is a senior official at a nationalized bank and is currently posted in Mumbai.

During the investigation, police found that the girl was alone in her room at the time of the incident. Her mother became worried when the girl did not answer her calls. Sensing something was wrong, she rushed to the hostel, forcibly entered the room, and saw her daughter hanging.
“Despite repeated calls, there was no response from her. Eventually, her mother broke open the door and found her hanging. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead,”
-said a senior police officer of the Barrackpore Commissionerate.
The girl was immediately taken to the hospital, but the doctors declared her dead on arrival. The police launched an investigation and filed a case of unnatural death. Her body has been sent for post-mortem at the College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital by the Kamarhati Police.

Police sources revealed that no suicide note was found near the victim. The authorities are now looking into possible causes that led to the tragedy.
Officials from RG Kar Medical College shared that the girl was mostly quiet and reserved. Police suspect she might have been suffering from depression.
RG Kar Doctor Rape and Murder Case
Earlier this year, a horrific case shook RG Kar Medical College. In January, the Sealdah court convicted Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, for the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old female postgraduate trainee doctor on August 9 last year.
The gruesome incident led to nationwide protests and multiple medical strikes across India demanding justice for the victim.
