The accused in the RG Kar rape-murder case claimed that he was “framed” and accused the former Kolkata Commissioner of Police (CP) of being involved in the case. He alleges that the police fabricated evidence against him. The accused’s statement comes amid ongoing investigations and a heated debate surrounding the case. His claims are now being examined as part of the legal proceedings.
Kolkata: In a significant development in the case involving the rape and murder of a second-year medical student from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the primary suspect, Sanjay Roy, asserted that he has been falsely implicated.
He claimed that former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal orchestrated a conspiracy against him. As he was being transported from the Sealdah Court following a hearing on Monday, Roy shouted at reporters from the police van, alleging that Goyal was behind the framing.
He also mentioned that he was threatened by other high-ranking officials associated with the case.
Sanjay Roy, the accused in the RG Kar rape and murder case, has made explosive claims, stating,
“I am telling you it was Vineet Goyal (former Kolkata Police Commissioner) who conspired the whole thing (rape and murder of RG Kar Medical College resident doctor) and framed me… They had threatened me and there were other big officers in it.”
On November 4, the Sealdah Court framed charges against Roy in connection with the case, marking a significant step in the legal proceedings.
The case sparked widespread attention, with junior doctors demanding strict action and capital punishment for those responsible.
As of November 9, marking 90 days since the incident, protests by junior doctors continue, with Dr. Rajdeep, a junior doctor, vowing, “We will not stop; the protest will continue.”
The case began on August 9 when the body of a second-year medical student was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, leading to nationwide protests among doctors.
In response to the outrage, Vineet Kumar Goyal was removed from his position as Kolkata Police Commissioner, and IPS officer Manoj Kumar Verma was appointed on September 17, following a meeting between junior doctors and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
