Today, On 20th August, The BJP nominated Bar Council of India (BCI) Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections from Bihar. In March 2022, Mishra had praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the BJP’s victory in assembly elections across four states.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced the candidacy of Senior Advocate and Chairman of the Bar Council of India (BCI), Manan Kumar Mishra, for the upcoming by-elections to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar.
This marks a significant move as Mishra, despite not having a formal political background or prior association with the BJP, has been selected to represent the party in this crucial election.

These selections indicate the BJP’s strategic positioning across multiple states to strengthen its presence in the Rajya Sabha.
The elections are scheduled to take place on September 3, a critical date for the party as it aims to consolidate its influence in the upper house of Parliament.

It’s noteworthy that in March 2022, Mishra had publicly congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the BJP’s victory in the assembly elections across four states. Although Mishra has never formally declared any political allegiance to the BJP, his comments at that time highlighted his support for PM Modi’s leadership.
Mishra emphasized that the election results were a reflection of the nationwide acceptance of Modi’s governance, which perhaps foreshadowed his eventual alignment with the party for the Rajya Sabha by-elections.
This nomination of a non-politician with a legal background may also signal the BJP’s intention to diversify its representation in Parliament by including voices from various professional sectors.
