The State Bar Council called on practicing advocates in Kerala to show their opposition to the fee hike by wearing black badges during court hours on July 11.

KERALA: On 2nd of July: The Bar Council of Kerala has declared July 11 as “protest day” to oppose the proposed increase in court fees for cases related to negotiable instruments and family court matters in Kerala.
The State Bar Council has called on practicing advocates in Kerala to show their opposition to the fee hike by wearing black badges during court hours on July 11.
This decision, announced in a circular dated July 2, was made during a Kerala Bar Council meeting held on June 30.
The July 2 circular from the State Bar Council mentioned that these challenges were raised by Bar Associations across Kerala during a virtual meeting held on June 8.

“The concerns expressed by the office bearers of the Advocate Associations were collected and presented before the Justice Mohanan Commission by the Bar Council of Kerala. The demand of the Bar Council and all the Bar Associations in the State of Kerala is to roll back the decision to enhance court fees for cases filed before Family Courts and under the Negotiable Instruments Act and to restore the earlier position,”
the circular further stated.
The protest is aimed at amendments proposed to the Kerala Court Fees and Suits Valuation Act, 1959, and seeks to highlight the challenges faced by lawyers and litigants.
