President of India Appoints 7 Advocates as High Court Judges After Consultation with CJI: Centre

NEW DELHI: In a major step taken under the powers given by the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consulting with the Chief Justice of India, has approved the appointment of seven advocates as Judges and Additional Judges in various High Courts across the country.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments through a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

He wrote:

“In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consultation with Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint the following Advocates as High Court Judges:”

Along with the post, he also shared an official list which includes the names of the appointed advocates and the High Courts where they will now serve.

These appointments mark an important development in strengthening the judiciary across the states. The appointments aim to improve the functioning and efficiency of the High Courts by adding experienced legal professionals to the bench.

The move is also part of the continuous efforts to reduce the backlog of pending cases in courts by increasing judicial strength.

The newly appointed judges will soon take their oath of office and begin serving in their respective High Courts. Such appointments are done after a careful selection process involving recommendations by the collegium and approval by the President of India.

This announcement has been welcomed across the legal community as a positive step toward improving access to justice and ensuring timely delivery of legal services to citizens.
