He advised that while guidance from seniors is important,
“guidance should be taken but the thinking should remain independent.”
Highlighting the importance of values, he said,
“The ethics should be at the topmost and there should be sympathy for the deprived in our minds. If the new generation takes efforts to learn and deliver honest service, there are huge opportunities in the field of law.”
Justice Chandrachud also emphasised the need for more women to join the legal profession, noting,
“Women are joining the sectors of superspeciality and technical branches today. This change should also take place in the field of law.”
He appreciated the success of students from smaller towns and rural areas, saying,
“There are students who have come from small cities, rural areas and are successful and the contribution of the law colleges is important in this.”
Stressing the importance of modern infrastructure for law students, the former CJI said that they should have access to advanced libraries and legal databases.
He also called on experienced members of the Bar to help young lawyers financially during the early stages of their careers, adding that such support would greatly strengthen the profession as a whole.
