According to a report, social activist Santosh Daundkar has filed a complaint with the National Green Tribunal (NGT), accusing Shah Rukh Khan and the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) of not adhering to proper procedures in obtaining Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance.

Shah Rukh Khan, one of Bollywood’s most iconic actors, is planning to renovate his famous bungalow ‘Mannat‘ in Mumbai’s Bandra neighborhood. The superstar and his family are expected to temporarily move out to allow for the extensive renovation and extension work. However, the project has encountered legal obstacles, with allegations of violations being raised.

The CRZ clearance is mandatory for any renovation in coastal areas, especially for heritage structures like Mannat, which is classified as a Grade III heritage building. Any structural changes to such properties require prior permissions.

The report further states that Shah Rukh Khan plans to expand his six-storey bungalow by adding two more floors.

Additionally, the activist has alleged that the actor “committed fraud by merging ’12 number of 1-BHK flats for mass housing’ into a residence for one family.”

Responding to the allegations, the NGT has instructed Daundkar to provide solid evidence supporting his claims.

The tribunal stated, “If any violation of the above procedure has been committed by the Project Proponent or the MCZMA, the same may be submitted by the appellant specifically along with the evidence in support of that, within four weeks, failing which we would be left with no option but to dismiss the present appeal for non-compliance of the order of this Tribunal, at the stage of admission itself.”

The tribunal’s coram includes Judicial Member Dinesh Kumar Singh and Expert Member Vijay Kulkarni. They emphasized the importance of submitting conclusive proof to proceed with the matter.

The NGT has scheduled the next hearing for April 23. Until then, the future of the renovation project remains uncertain.
