The National Commission for Women (NCW) summoned Ranveer Allahabadia, Samay Raina, and others over offensive remarks made on a show. NCW chief Vijaya Rahatkar strongly condemned the language used and emphasized the need for stricter content regulation. She stated that the commission has written to the IT Ministry regarding the issue. The NCW is taking the matter seriously and is pushing for action against such content.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) expressed deep concern on February 11, 2025, regarding derogatory comments made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia and others during the comedy show “India’s Got Latent.”

The NCW summoned these individuals to appear on February 17.

In a statement, the commission noted,

“These comments, which have sparked widespread public outrage, violate the dignity and respect owed to every individual, particularly in a society that upholds equality and mutual respect.”

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar scheduled a hearing to address the issue, emphasizing the need for accountability among the content creators, including Samay Raina, Apoorva Makhija, Jaspreet Singh, and Ashish Chanchlani, as well as the show’s producers, Tushar Poojari and Saurabh Bothra.

The NCW requested their in-person attendance at the hearing, which will be held at 12 p.m. at the NCW office in New Delhi. In a related statement made during an event in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Chairperson Rahatkar condemned the language used on the show, asserting,

“We have written to the IT ministry in this regard. There is a need to regulate content on such platforms.”

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who looks after the State’s Women and Child Development Department, agreed and said,

“No one should be hurt by any interaction on social media. The commission should take action in this matter.”

The accused include Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, and Samay Raina, among others.

The FIR filed against the influencers for engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussions in a show titled ‘India’s Got Latent.’

If found guilty, the accused YouTubers could face severe legal consequences, including fines and imprisonment. The Cinematograph Act and IT Act impose strict penalties for obscenity and the transmission of inappropriate content online.

Earlier, a Supreme Court lawyer filed a complaint with Delhi’s Cyber Police against YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, stand-up comedian Samay Raina, and others for allegedly making “vulgar references to close family relationships on a reality show.

The lawyer, Advocate Vineet Jindal, has also urged the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to ban the show ‘India’s Got Latent’, citing its “vulgar content” and impact on Indian culture.

In India, rules about obscenity in online content, TV shows, and websites come under Section 292 of the IPC, the IT Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women Act. If a show like India’s Got Latent is in trouble for obscene content, it may be because people complained or the authorities took action under these laws.
