A 47-year-old woman was shot and killed while returning from a court hearing in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Police believe her husband may be involved in the murder due to their ongoing legal conflict.
The victim, Manju, was engaged in a maintenance case against her husband, Manoj. Officials noted that she was on her way back from a hearing related to this case when the shooting occurred.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Amardeep stated,
“The incident took place in the Fatehabad area. Currently, the husband is suspected of the murder, and a search for him is underway.”
He mentioned that Manju and Manoj had been married for about 15 years, and the legal dispute centered around a maintenance plea she had filed.

In this case, several legal provisions may apply:
- Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) – Punishment for murder. If the husband is found guilty, he may face life imprisonment or the death penalty.
- Section 498A of the IPC – If there was a history of cruelty or harassment by the husband, this section can also be invoked. It deals with cruelty to a woman by her husband or his relatives.
- Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) – This is the section under which the wife had likely filed her maintenance case. It allows a woman to claim financial support from her husband if she is unable to maintain herself.
- Arms Act, 1959 – If the murder weapon was an illegal firearm, relevant provisions of the Arms Act may also be used against the accused.
