Maharashtra Women Commission Chairperson Praises Supreme Court for its Strong Stance Against Ranveer Allahbadia

Mumbai: Maharashtra Women Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar has praised the Supreme Court for its strong stance against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, stating that the court has “reprimanded very well and ordered the stoppage of shows.”

“A complaint was filed against Ranveer Allahbadia for an investigation on India’s Got Latent for the inappropriate content. We sent a letter to Mumbai Commissioner for an inquiry and saying whatever the report comes, will be given to Women’s Commission. Supreme Court has reprimanded them very well and ordered the stoppage of shows,”

Chakankar said.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court criticized Allahbadia for his inappropriate comments during a guest appearance on India’s Got Latent, describing them as “dirty and perverted.”

If this is not obscenity, then what is obscenity?

questioned a bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh.

Justice Kant further slammed Allahbadia, stating,

“Such behaviour has to be condemned. Just because you are popular, you cannot take the society for granted. Is there anyone on earth who will like this language? There is something very dirty in his mind, which has been vomited by him in the program. He is insulting parents also. Why should the courts favour him?”

The bench did not hold back, adding,

“The words you have chosen, parents will feel ashamed. Daughters and sisters will feel ashamed. The entire society will be ashamed. These are the levels of depravity you and your henchmen have gone to.”

While hearing Allahbadia’s plea to club FIRs registered against him in Mumbai, Guwahati, and Jaipur, the court granted him interim protection from arrest. However, it directed no further FIR shall be registered against him for the episode aired on India’s Got Latent.

Additionally, Allahbadia was instructed to deposit his passport with the police and cannot leave the country without the court’s permission.

“The interim protection is subject to the condition of him joining the investigation,”

the court emphasized, granting him liberty to seek police protection if needed.

The Supreme Court also ordered that Allahbadia and his associates be ‘off from show business for some time.’

Furthermore, the top court asked the Centre to take action regarding obscene content on YouTube and other social media platforms.

“These so-called YouTubers… We would like you (government) to do something. If the government is willing, we are happy, otherwise, we are not going to leave this vacuum the way it is being misused by so-called YouTube channels and YouTubers,”

Justice Kant remarked to Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati.

The bench has now sought the assistance of the Attorney General and Solicitor General in this matter.

Allahbadia had approached the Supreme Court to club multiple FIRs lodged against him across India for his recent inappropriate remarks on India’s Got Latent.
