The Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association (KHCAA) has warned lawyers against creating or sharing reels and videos from court premises, stating that such content undermines the dignity and ethics of the legal profession and may attract disciplinary action under the Advocates Act.

The Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association (KHCAA) issued a notice cautioning advocates against creating, featuring in, or circulating videos and reels from within and around the High Court premises through social media platforms.

In a notice issued on June 3, 2026, the Association said that it had observed a growing trend of videos and reels being recorded and shared on social media from the High Court premises.

According to the Association, such activities are not permissible and are contrary to the professional standards expected from advocates.

The KHCAA stated that these videos and reels are not in keeping with the dignity, ethics, and professional conduct required of members of the legal profession. It emphasized that advocates are expected to maintain the decorum of the court and uphold the reputation of the legal fraternity at all times.

The notice further pointed out that such conduct is prohibited under Section 49(1)(c) of the Advocates Act and Rule 36 of Chapter II, Part VI of the Bar Council of India Rules. These provisions regulate professional conduct and restrict advocates from engaging in activities that may undermine the dignity of the profession.

The Association also warned that disciplinary proceedings may be initiated against advocates who engage in such acts. It referred to Section 35 of the Advocates Act, which provides for action against advocates for professional misconduct.

In view of the increasing circulation of such content on social media, the KHCAA advised all its members to refrain from making, featuring in, or sharing videos and reels from the High Court premises. The Association urged advocates to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics and preserve the dignity of the institution and the legal profession.

The notice was issued by Adv. Nima Jacob, Secretary of the Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association.

Last year, the Bar Council of Kerala issued a show-cause notice to a newly enrolled advocate after a video of his enrolment ceremony featuring visuals of a Kerala High Court judge’s official vehicle and its number plate was shared on social media.
