New Delhi, December 12: Union Minister Giriraj Singh has voiced support for the controversial remarks reportedly made by Allahabad High Court judge Shekhar Kumar Yadav during an event organized by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) at the court premises.

Justice Yadav allegedly stated at the event that he had “no hesitation” in asserting that the country should function according to the wishes of the majority, sparking widespread criticism.

Responding to the comments, AAP MP Sanjay Singh emphasized the inclusive nature of the Constitution, stating, “India belongs to everyone, as enshrined in the Constitution. No one can act against it, and we will oppose anyone who does.”

He further accused the ruling party of ignoring critical issues such as unemployment, education, and healthcare, while condemning Justice Yadav’s statement as unconstitutional.

Defending Justice Yadav, Giriraj Singh remarked, “The judge’s comments were made at a Vishva Hindu Parishad event, not in a judicial capacity, and I believe they are correct.”

The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the media reports regarding Justice Yadav’s speech. It has sought details from the Allahabad High Court and is reviewing the matter, according to an official press release from the apex court.

Justice Yadav addressed topics such as the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) during a provincial convention of the VHP’s Legal Cell and High Court Unit on Sunday. Videos of his remarks, in which he reportedly stated that laws should reflect the majority’s views, circulated widely and elicited strong reactions from opposition parties.

Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court recently come under scrutiny for his controversial comments made during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) event. He remarked that “India will function according to the wishes of the majority” and referred to certain individuals as “kathmullahs” who are against the nation.

This follows earlier statements in which he asserted that “scientists believe the cow is the only animal that exhales oxygen” and called for the cow to be designated as the national animal. These comments have ignited discussions regarding the appropriateness of judges voicing personal opinions and the potential implications for judicial impartiality.
