Dehradun: Justice Guhanathan Narendar, formerly a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court on Thursday (Dec 26).
The oath-taking ceremony was conducted at Raj Bhawan, where Governor Lt Gen (retd) Gurmit Singh administered the oath.
Justice Narendar’s appointment as Chief Justice, announced by President Droupadi Murmu on December 23, follows his succession of Justice Ritu Bahri.
Article 217, Constitution of India 1950: the office of a Judge shall be vacated by his being appointed by the President to be a Judge of the Supreme Court or by his being transferred by the President to any other High Court within the territory of India.

Born on January 10, 1964, Justice Narendar began his legal career on August 23, 1989, after enrolling with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu. Over his career, he has handled cases of constitutional significance as well as matters related to civil, taxation (customs), mining laws, environmental issues, and arbitration. Before his current role, he served as a judge in the Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh High Courts.
