Justice Is Not A 10 AM To 5 PM Job, It’s A Duty To The Nation: CJI Gavai

CJI B R Gavai said that giving justice is not a 10 to 5 job but a sacred responsibility. He spoke emotionally about his journey, his parents’ values, and his strong connection with Aurangabad.

MAHARASHTRA: In a heartfelt speech at Aurangabad, Chief Justice of India (CJI) B R Gavai said that giving justice is not just work like a regular job from 10 AM to 5 PM, but it is a very important and sacred duty for the country.

CJI Gavai was honoured during a special program at Rukmini Auditorium, MGM University campus. The event was organized by the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court and the Lawyers’ Association. Many judges, senior lawyers, and CJI’s family members were present during the program.

While speaking, he said that judges must stay connected to people and society to truly understand their issues and deliver fair justice. He explained how being a judge is not just about rules and laws, but also about understanding the ground realities of the public.

During the ceremony, he was given a certificate of appreciation. The new logo of the upcoming Lawyers’ Literature Conference was also launched during the function.

CJI Gavai gave credit for his success to the values and blessings of his parents. He remembered how his father always taught him moral values and kept close ties with Sant Gadge Baba.

He said,

“Do good even for your enemies.”

He shared that it was his father’s wish that he should become a lawyer and eventually a judge.

He said,

“Administrating justice is not merely some job but rather a vital service rendered unto the nation.”

He asked judges to stay close to real-life situations of people so they can give better judgments.

He also remembered a serious accident he faced in 2008 and spoke about how people supported him emotionally after his father’s death in 2015.

He said,

“The love shown by the people of this city will always remain close to my heart.”

He spoke with love about his personal bond with Aurangabad (now called Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) and how many good memories he has from this city.

He praised the Aurangabad Bench for producing talented judges and lawyers and said it has grown into a respected legal institution.

He shared with a smile,

“Nagpur and Aurangabad feel closer to me than Mumbai,”

and also joked,

“Only after going to Delhi does one truly understand Delhi.”
