Justice Dwarka Dhish Bansal cycled to the Madhya Pradesh High Court after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged fuel conservation amid global tensions. He said cycling is easy, adding, “Just because we are High Court judges doesn’t mean we are special… everyone should cycle.”

Justice Dwarka Dhish Bansal of the Madhya Pradesh High Court was recently seen cycling to court after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to conserve fuel amid the rising global energy crisis, linked to growing US–Iran tensions.
A reel shared on Instagram shows the judge riding a bicycle and emphasizing the importance of encouraging cycle use for short-distance travel.
Justice Bansal said that cycling publicly was meant to raise awareness about commuting by bicycle for distances of around 1–2 kilometres whenever possible.
Reacting to the Prime Minister’s message, he noted that he felt he should also cycle from his residence to the High Court.
In the video, he said,
“Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has appealed to save fuel, among other things. Keeping it in mind, I felt I should cycle to the High Court and give a message to the common man to use a cycle to commute whenever possible for shorter distances of 1-2 kms.”
Justice Bansal also mentioned that he sometimes cycles around Jabalpur together with Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva.
He added that cycling is practical and beneficial for both health and sustainability, explaining,
“I keep cycling with Chief Justice Sachdeva Ji sometimes around the city of Jabalpur. I don’t think it’s much work to cycle. Just because we are High Court judges doesn’t mean we are special… I think everyone should cycle, people usually avoid it because of the hot weather, but everyone should cycle,”
In the reel, Justice Bansal further recalled that earlier, bicycles were widely used as the primary mode of transport by a large section of the population.
