NEW DELHI: Former Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, frequently expresses his passion for cricket. During an event on Sunday(24th Nov), he revealed his favorite cricketer.
Justice Chandrachud also discussed the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia.
Speaking to Media, he remarked, “I don’t get to see the live broadcast, but I watch the 5-7 minute highlights every night to see how Virat Kohli has played, how Ravichandran Ashwin has bowled, or if Jasprit Bumrah has performed well.”
He praised Bumrah’s five-wicket haul in the first innings of the current Test match. Justice Chandrachud named Virat Kohli and the Indian stand-in captain as his favorite players from the current generation, while expressing admiration for former cricketer Rahul Dravid.
“Among previous cricketers, I am a fan of Rahul Dravid always stable, always solid,” he added.
DY Chandrachud Takes On Rahul Dravid
Rahul Dravid had an illustrious cricket career, known for his consistent top-order batting and reliable slip fielding. After retiring as a player, he coached India’s U-19 team to a World Cup victory in 2018 and later led the senior squad to the T20 World Cup title last year, ending an ICC trophy drought since 2013. He also guided the team to the ODI World Cup final, their first since 2011.
Justice Chandrachud retired as Chief Justice of India on November 11. Throughout his tenure, he delivered over 500 judgments, including landmark rulings on the Ayodhya dispute and the electoral bonds case. Justice Sanjeev Khanna succeeded him in the country’s highest judicial position.
