Jharkhand CM launches the Chief Minister Advocate Health Insurance Scheme, ensuring social security for state lawyers. “Jharkhand becomes the first state to secure advocates’ future,” said the CM at the historic event.

The state of Jharkhand has introduced a health insurance program specifically for lawyers and their families.

This initiative falls under the umbrella of the Rajyakarmi Swasthya Beema Yojana, now broadened to encompass legal professionals.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren praised the program as a significant step, stating in a tweet,

“With sensitivity towards the secure future of our state’s advocates and their families, the Abua government has moved forward. Today is your day, a day of your enthusiasm. We have taken upon our shoulders the task of lightening the burden of many of your concerns and responsibilities. Jharkhand has become the first state in the country where the future of all state advocates is being secured by connecting them to social security. Heartiest congratulations, best wishes, and Johar to all of you on this auspicious and historic occasion of the launch of the Chief Minister Advocate Health Insurance Scheme.”

He also promoted the Guruji Credit Card Yojana, a program providing collateral-free educational loans up to Rs.15 lakh for higher education, urging advocates and their families to utilize it.

An insurance scheme for lawyers is a welfare initiative designed to provide financial security to advocates and their families.

Many state bar councils and the Bar Council of India have introduced such schemes, often in partnership with government bodies or insurance companies, to support legal professionals in times of need.

These schemes typically offer coverage for health, life, and accidental insurance. Health insurance helps lawyers and their families meet hospitalisation and medical expenses.

Life insurance provides a financial safety net to the lawyer’s dependents in case of untimely death.

Accidental insurance offers compensation in case of disability or death due to accidents, which is especially useful given the stressful and travel-heavy nature of legal work.

Eligibility for these schemes is usually limited to practicing advocates enrolled with a state bar council. The premium is often subsidised or fully paid by the government, depending on the scheme. Some schemes also include maternity benefits, critical illness coverage, and scholarships for lawyers’ children.
